About

Mongers' Provisions was founded in 2017 by Zach Berg and William Werner.  We have two Specialty Food Stores, in the Detroit area. Our Midtown Detroit Cheese Shop and Specialty store opened in 2018. Our Berkley, Michigan Cheese Shop and Specialty food store opened in 2021. Both stores specialize in cut-to-order cheese, craft chocolate and charcuterie.  We also carry beer and wine in both locations and both serve up some killer lunch options. We offer Provisions Boards, for your small party or event, in addition to catered tables for larger occasions.

We are retailers, but also storytellers who are excited to share our passion with Detroit.  This business came to be out of a life-long love of good eating and countless discussions about how to translate that love into a business. After the two of us catered Will's wedding, we knew that those discussions had some real legs.  Our path to Mongers' Provisions has been a long one. Similarly, we believe food can take you on a journey. We want you to begin your own journey and we hope you will join us on ours. We use the products we offer to outfit you for this journey and connect you with exceptional places, people and cultures.

Mongers' Provisions is located in Midtown Detroit at 4240 Cass Avenue and in Berkley, Michigan at 3127 12 Mile Rd.

About Will:

Will loves sharing experiences built around food with others.  After seven years working as a geologist, he decided to take a plunge and get into the food industry.  He moved back to Michigan and took a job managing Gayle's Chocolates in Royal Oak.  During this time he became fascinated by the "bean-to-bar" chocolate movement.  Will has visited chocolate manufacturers from Utah to Vietnam and loves the interaction between the farmers, the land (terroir) and the chocolate makers.  When he and Zach decided to open Provisions, they knew they wanted to make craft chocolate a focal point of the business.  Will is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Earth Sciences. He is also a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.
